ZEMK's Story and Values

Hello! My name is Zann, the founder of ZEMK Care | London. Based a stones throw away from the heart of Docklands in East London, I am an Analyst by day (experienced in industries like Social Care, Construction) and currently in Biotech specialising in Neuroscience. My experience in each of these areas has really shown me the importance of self-care and taking care of your mind.

Self-care is about taking the time, for yourself, nurturing your mind just as much as you nurture your body. We want everyone to recognise the power of self-care and understand that every single life matters.

Like many start-ups and small businesses, ZEMK Care | London was born in the pandemic. Since the first lockdown, what became apparent was the lack of self care we all instilled in our lives as the pandemic had just started; the fear of the unknown was at an all time high. With the world coming to a halt and time being on our side, I found myself in a unique position to look within and ready to navigate a new path...I decided to take the plunge, and using the knowledge I had gained to create a business with a very small team, that helps others to take care of their minds and bringing zen into their everyday lives, all whilst being Earth Conscious.

It was key to establish core values, when deciding to create the brand. These are the values we want the brand to live by;

ZEN - Reflects at the heart of what we want to do, restore inner peace and balance. We want all our products to unlock a moment of zen everyday to your wellbeing.

ETHICAL - We want to make a positive difference, how we operate and what we do for others. Running an honest business means everything, we don’t cut corners and we’ll try to do what we say..every time.

MIND - To take effective care of the mind daily by implementing best braincare practices, day after day and night after night. We put mental health and braincare first, because every mind matters.

KNOWLEDGE - Underpinned by our desire to continuously learn and to share our experience generously with you! As a small business, we want to share our growth and what we learn. 

CARE - We unquestionably care about others & the planet we live in. It's our middle name, from caring about yourselves #SelfCare to creating products sustainably to ensuring every product sold makes a difference through its donations.

Growing up giving back became part of my core being, a pillar in my faith and now a fundamental in ZEMK Care | London. It was important for me to create a brand that has a domino effect on self-care & caring for others. Being brought up in an entrepreneurial & generous household it was my turn to pass it on and help others. So I decided to partner up with The Brain Charity and become an ambassador for the Brain and Spine Foundation. The Act With Intention pledge is to raise awareness for Neurological diseases across our platforms and to donate 10% of sales to the aforementioned charities.

Through my own practices of using candles for its calming nature, it only made sense to create my own!

Each one of our collections has been researched & created to help you switch off from the daily stresses, aiding your well-being & getting a good night’s sleep!

Our debut line is The Daily Collection, seven artisan candles that have been hand-crafted using the highest grade of soy wax. Throughout the past year, we have tried and tested various techniques to create durable, luxurious candles which retain outstanding scent throw to be enjoyed daily. Our premium essential scent blends are an absolute treat for your senses!

We are a self-care brand that believes everything & everyone has a purpose.

We believe every brain matters because every life matters and each one of us has a role to play in guaranteeing that everyone's potential is unleashed, whether for oneself or for others, we all have the ability to make something of ourselves.

Our intention is to run an honest business and use our platform to spread the word about neurological diseases and disorders.

This is why for every product sold,10% of direct sales will be donated to neuro-related charities (unless stated otherwise). Our chosen charities who we will be working closely with are, the incredible The Brain Charity & The Brain and Spine Foundation.

The Brain Charity offers emotional support, practical help and social activities to anyone with a neurological condition and to their family, friends, and carers. There are hundreds of different neurological conditions, including stroke, brain injury, dementia, cluster headaches, and many rarer ones too. The Brain Charity's mission is to enable all those affected by neurological conditions to live longer, healthier, happier lives. To fight together for an inclusive and just society: a world where stigma, hardship and isolation are replaced by compassion and understanding.  

The Brain & Spine Foundation is the only UK-wide charity providing information and support for every one of the over 470 neurological disorders which affect 1 in 6 people in the UK. Neurological conditions and associated treatments are often complex and poorly understood by those affected and their families. Many people wait for a long time for diagnosis while living with ongoing symptoms and the anxiety of not knowing what the future holds. The Brain & Spine Foundation exists to provide information, answer questions, reduce anxiety and to inform choices.

Earth Conscious

Two of the biggest issues facing people today are the way in which they look after themselves and how we look after the environment.

Our products use high quality sustainable materials that are natural, cruelty free and vegan.

The in-house products we produce are in small batches by hand, which uses less energy and eliminates the footprint of mass production.

Our wax comes from sustainable sources, free from paraffin, petroleum, palm, lead, phthalates and any other unpleasantries.

The cotton wicks are cut and waxed in-house to avoid the layer of paraffin that is found on most pre-waxed wicks.

All stickers, shredded paper & peanuts are 100% biodegradable and recyclable.

The postal boxes used are from recycled materials and in some instances plastic, the plastic that is found is re-used and re-purposed from what we have received from suppliers. We do not intentionally buy plastic packaging.

Care is our middle name (literally) and one of our core values, we are committed to reducing the impact on the earth in any capacity where we can, and as we grow!
