Meet Marisa, founder of the wonderful plant based, plastic free and vegan Truthpaste!
In 2014, a toothache, a trip to the dentist and a long standing interest in ayurveda would lead to the birth of Truthpaste. Experiencing a ‘pain beyond pain’ following emergency dental surgery, Marisa was compelled to look into home dentistry and Ayurvedic medicine when her anaesthetic had worn off.
In her kitchen in Brighton, she found that she could find many of the ingredients to ease the pain in her own cupboards and began mixing the very first incarnation of Truthpaste. Tea Tree oil, neem leaf powder and a dash of clove oil were all mixed together with coconut oil. The result was... well, disgusting. A bitter tasting, slimy, black paste. It did, however, do the trick and eased the pain.
That might have been the end of it but from there Marisa began to research modern dentistry and combined this with her love of the ancient wisdom of Ayurvedic practice. Her determination to find a natural remedy for toothache led to a number of experiments in her kitchen, the results tested by friends and family. Now she had found a passion to create a natural and eco friendly alternative to traditional toothpaste, it was time to make Truthpaste into a reality.
Today, Marisa has moved from her humble beginnings in her small kitchen to a factory with a dedicated team working with her. Whilst Truthpaste was such a success that it was easy to grow organically and rapidly, Marisa is keen to stay true to her core values; a product that will always be cruelty free, sustainable and zero waste whilst supporting the health of the whole mouth. A great deal of time has been spent to ensure that everything from packaging to postage is as ethical and eco friendly as possible and we're constantly learning new ways in which to be a greener company.
Whilst improvements and tweaks have been made over the years, Truthpaste remains the company it set out to be: Simple, clean and honest.
